WiP Wednesday - quilting and hand piecing

We are on school holidays for the next two weeks, so my sewing has slowed down a fair bit compared to the last few weeks. Normally, I have two days a week without kids so I get a fair bit accomplished - holidays mean it's just night time sewing again. Having said that, I've decided to finally pull my finger out and start learning to hand piece, and start my Bring Me Flowers BOM (run by Amitie Textiles). They have recently announced a third round for this BOM - so if you're interested in joining you can contact them through their website.

I'm honestly not sure why I have put this off for so long - it's been way less scary than I thought. Having said that, the first month is all straight lines - from month two onwards, there are LOTS of curves. I'll let you know how that goes ;o)

I have been quilting my Marcelle each night - I'm up to the last three borders. The way I'm quilting these is completely inspired by the amazing Krista Withers.

I've done one whole side, so I'm hoping to get it finished over the next week or so. I'm still not sure what I'll do in the floral bits - I will probably leave those until I've quilted the rest and then decide.

I'll be back of Friday with a brand new Sew-Along announcement (*cough* Midnight at the Oasis *cough*).

xx Jess

Everything looks so delightful Jess! Hand piecing is not so hard, hey? Do you do a back stitch every four or five stitches. I learnt that at a Judy Newman workshop. I am loving your Marcelle more and more! How about following some of the stem and leaf shapes in the 'floral bits'? Looking forward to your next post, but I am not sure if I'm up for a MatO Sew*Along!!!

Maybe if the sew-along was over a year I would join in, but you ladies get everything made so quickly!! Loving your work :-)

This is still looking fantastic! I am going to find it very hard to resist this sew along. Going to try because I want to actually sew up a couple of the patterns I've sketched up myself.

ooh any tips you can share on hand piecing? I'm about to start a Farmer's Wife quilt and would like to hand piece it ...

That's weird... It looked like you had something in your throat but upon further inspection it was just a wildly scintillating medallion... You must be more careful, Jess :)

Laughing at Sharpie's comment! It's nice to handpiece when there are kids on holiday - much more sociable than being stuck behind the machine. The MM quilt is still looking mighty gorgeous!!

I love the quilting on your medallion and good for you to do some hand piecing!

I have no desire to hand piece...at all. Maybe one day....

The quilting looks amazing! Can't wait for the full reveal, which at the rate you go probably won't be far down the road. :)

I have to admit, the hand piecing does nothing for me, but enjoy yours!

What? Seriously? You hosting an Amitie QAL? Tell me now babe because ordering a pattern from Australia takes tiiiime to get to my house in Far Far Away NY USA!

I think you'll find hand piecing really addictive, it's just so portable and easy to do bits whenever you have a minute free. I love the quilting you're doing on your medallion!!!

You are having a QAL? That is an amazing pattern, a bit too advanced but will keep it for later!
