The pattern is the Colour Block quilt, designed by Tula Pink for her Saltwater collection. It's a really nice pattern to use larger scale prints, and it is one of those really clever and simple patterns to make. I chose kona solids for the background, in colours that would blend well with the prints. This quilt top has been sitting in my to-finish pile for a few years, wanting to be finished. The size (84" x 96") was what made me hesitate to quilt it - so when I was given a frame earlier this year I decided this would be the first quilt to go on the frame.
And the last as it happens, for a few reasons. When I set my machine up on the frame, I realised I only had about 4" of quilting space at any time, which meant my options for quilting were fairly limited. I decided to go for dense organic straight lines, and I adore the texture. The other negative while I was using the frame was the number of thread breakages I had while quilting. I'm pretty sure I was just expecting too much of my machine on the frame, and expecting it to stitch faster than it's capable of. The other thing that might have played a role is the fact that I used a high thread count flat sheet for the backing fabric. Whatever the reason, I haven't used the frame since!
I used a whole bunch of Aurifil 50wt threads to quilt it - many of them are variegated from Tula Pink's first collection for Aurifil. I love how the thread blends in some areas, but contrasts a lot in others (especially on the darker fabrics.) I'm yet to wash this one, but I'm a bit excited to see how it crinkles once it's washed.

Its just beautiful and a great way to display Tula's Eden fabrics. If I was to win I would want to make a 'me' quilt though not sure of design and would have to wait till I complete the 'gift' quilts. I have never done a 'me' quilt in the 10 years I have been quilting.

Great looking quilt. I just ordered one of Tula Pink's quilt books so I will soon be tackling one of her quilt projects soon. I love the color palette of this fabric grouping. Anything with aquas, teals, blues will catch my eye. These fabrics would surely end up in a quilt project.

My first thought is to stash it away to wait for the inspiration, of course you would have to take it out and touch it to get that inspiration. The fabric is so fresh looking with the greens so the inspiration would have to be something for spring (Australia) a Quilt for my youngest daughter, (29) as these are her colours and I haven't made her a quilt yet all the grandchildren come first.

I'd stash it and use it little by little probably to make stuff toys. Tula's fabric gives a nice zing to simple dolls. I recently made a simple mermaid who had the great Saltwater octopi on her tail.

I've been on a bit of a fabric purchasing diet, and I miss my Tula prints so much. I would love to have this. No idea what I'd do with it, but until said diet, I made at least two Tula quilts a year, and they're all some of my favorites.

Truthfully, I would stash the fabric if I won it. There you go, my guilty secret.....I stash all new fabric til it "cures" sufficiently to be cut and used. Its a bit like making bacon. I put it in a sealed container, in a cool dry place, then take it out to check and rotate it regularly. Eventually I cut into it, but only after a reasonable period of time, 3-12 months. At this particular point in time I would probably have to stash the fabric if I won. We are in the process of moving and I already have four quilts in varying stages that need to be finished. I don't do well with so many projects in progress. So they need to be completed. I love your quilt! It's gorgeous. Next time you use your machine on the frame try Superior So Fine thread #50. Please don't be one of those quilter's who swear they have to use only cotton thread on their cotton fabric. So Fine is a cotton thread with a polyester core made for quilting. It is a wonderful thread and will not harm your quilt in any way. And since it has a polyester core it will not break every 20 seconds. Trust me....you can't go wrong with it. If you aren't familiar with Superior threads please do go to their website and become familiar with their items. The issue with the high thread count sheet you used for backing was probably the wrong needle as much as the cotton thread. The right needle for the fabric as well as for the thread size. They need to be in sync. Hope that helps.
What a fantastic giveaway! I started over a year ago to buy older Tula Pink when I could afford it, and the new designs, too, of course! I have one sea themed quilt that I want to make for my daughter and then do a totally Tula quilt for myself. I love yours. It is amazing! I haven't thought of using different solids in a background before. I need to get more of Tula's books. I just have the blocks book right now. Anyway, I think your quilt is fabulous and I hope Ms Random will choose me for your giveaway because Tula Pink is a genius!

I love Tula Pink I would make my first Dresden quilt out of it for myself for a change, I've never made anything like this for myself whether it be sewing or crocheting I always gave it away to family or friends that fell in love with what ever I made and lately I've blade quilts for two great granddaughters, a daughter and my husband and currently making one for my son and his husband, so I would definitely make one for me to cuddle with when watching tv and hand piecing.

Wow. What a great quilt. On my blog feed I sort of looked at it and thought it's not really my style and the color combination was unusual, but looking at the blog pictures. It's wonderful. It somehow reminds me of walking through a park and looking at sky scrapers and gives me the feel that each color shift is doing it again on another day or at another time. Love your quilt! I would probably make something simple, featuring the prints in bigger blocks with solids, so the Eden is the star. I would make it right away, I've learned to use fabrics right away while I still love them!
