Weekend Sewing

The weather is starting to warm up (finally) so there has been more mud pie making than sewing around here - although warmer nights mean my sewing room is much more inviting too :o)

I have a few priorities at the moment - the Windsor Lane baby quilt being one of them. I finished piecing together the quilt top last week, basted it and started quilting. This is a peek of the quilting - final reveal won't be until it's completely finished and is at it's new home ;o)

I really, really struggled with my quilting plan for this one - there were loads and loads of sketches before I arrived at this idea. The design and fabrics really shouted out for some traditional style FMQ - feathers or something like that. But then I started thinking of how I could use the negative space to make a secondary design on the quilt without (hopefully) overwhelming the piecing, and without being too traditional. It is no where near perfect (I'm sure you can see how dodgy some of those curved lines are - I'm hoping some lines of pebbles will sort that out!) - but I think overall it will look okay (although probably not especially 'modern'). It's the first time I've drawn registration lines before I started quilting - and it may be the last - I'm much more a make it up as I go person :o) .

This is what that centre star looks like on the back - very, very pleased with this bit. In fact, you can see what I'm attempting a lot better on the back.

I've also started the Joyce baby quilt take 2 - I've been cutting these (still working out the exposure settings on the new camera - those tangerines are WAY less bright in real life.) I forgot how much fun little quilts are to plan and make :o)

Oh and a massive, massive thankyou to everyone who voted for my Groove quilt - I came second! So thrilled!

xx Jess

That quilting is amazing! I can't believe it! I've yet to quilt anything but this makes me inspired to at least do straight lines. I can't wait to see the finished piece, and what a magical gift.
