Since it's nearly a month into our fabric fast (seriously? how fast has January flown by?), we thought it might be a good idea to have a check in linky so we can share how things are going with each other, and offer support if needed.
I'm really surprised how easy it has been so far (I know it's only been 3 weeks, but I was worried it would be way worse). I think once I'm starting projects later in the year it will become more difficult to resist buying some new shiny fabric, but right now I'm having fun playing with my stash. It probably also helps that there haven't been any massive fabric sales yet ;o)

We have also started up a Flickr group if anyone is interested in joining. You are welcome to use the Flickr group to post photos of your WIPs and finishes throughout the year, and also to add photos of any fabric you are looking to destash or swap. Swapping fabric is definitely not against the rules! I'm also thinking the Flickr group will be a good way to get to know each other.
Oh, just because I feel weird having a photo-less post, this is my three year old and me Go-Karting last weekend :o)
xx Jess
Today was a challenge with everyone destashing on Instagram! I did buy some Riley Blake stackers that I intend to use for my commission quilt but otherwise I have stayed strong!
ReplyDeleteWell I sold a ton in the UK destash and didn't buy anything there... Can't say the same for elsewhere though ;o)
ReplyDeleteI purchased 1 fat quarter as the entry fee into a Brown Bag group - it was required that I buy one from the quilt shop that hosts our meetings, so it didn't even come home with me! So far, so good :)
ReplyDeleteI have been purchase free for over a month now, started a bit early. Trying to make a yard of white turn into two yards. I unsubscribed from all possible links, no instagram, no fb and no newsletters, my theory, if I don't know what is out there I wont buy it

ReplyDeleteI failed miserably, but I look at it that I'm saving the economy that everyone else has abandoned!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'll be cheering you gals on. I have just surpassed my "3 YEAR" millstone for my 'no fabric' buying rebellion. Yep, in 3 yrs. the only fabric related purchased I have made is one BOM kit from The Quilt Show last January. I loved the BOM exactly as they had it with their fabric choices so I looked at it as a 2 yr. reward.
ReplyDeleteIt gets easier as you go and now I really just don't think about it. I have TONS and TONS in my stash and will not live long enough to use it all.
I will admit that I will soon have to make some 'yardage' purchased for some backs, but other that that I think I will still see how long I can go.
After the first year it then became a challenge to myself to see how long I can go.
We are cotton farmers and I got mad when fabric prices sky rocketed 3 yrs. ago and still have not come back down!!
Keep going…..it really does get easier!!!
It's been easy because I'm still working on old WIPS. LOL!
