Market Maze Quilt Top and a Giveaway!

Just after Christmas last year I started testing a quilt pattern for Alyce (of Blossom Heart Quilts) and she has just released the pattern, so I can finally show you my top and tell you a bit about the pattern. Thankfully I've only had to wait a week or so (I'm not good at waiting, or secrets) ;o)



I honestly loved making this quilt - putting it together is kind of like doing a puzzle. So. Much. Fun. The way Alyce has designed the blocks is seriously brilliant - there aren't many seams to match up and the piecing is really easy as long as you use an accurate 1/4" seam. And pins. Lots of pins.

I used my Denyse Schmidt stash for this one (mostly Flea Market Fancy) - I ended up adding in a few different prints from the ones I originally picked out, just to add a few more warm tones to it. I'm calling mine Market Maze (thanks to Mr 5's immediate reaction of 'Mum, it's like a maze quilt!', quickly followed by 'is it for me? It has my letter all over it!').


There are four size options in the pattern - I made the lap sized version and it finished up at about 62" x 66" so a great size for snuggling under once the weather cools down (or anytime if you're addicted to quilts like my kids!) Even better, it is made using 2.5" strips, so it's the perfect Jelly Roll quilt :o) You could even use a JR for the background!

    I like the idea of Tetris , I was also thinking black background . I'd go more for little boy road trip quilt so maybe use pieces from Cone Zone collection?

    I would use Simply Color for a larger quilt, but I am thinking I may try a baby sized one first with some Kaffe Fassett scraps i was given. A great design!

    I'm loving the way the black made the pink and turquoise pop on the Tasmanian Twin Tops, so I think I'd go for bright colours from the scrap drawer with black ackground.

    This is a great quilt and one I could use for many fabrics I already have. I think it would be perfect for my Granddaughter, whom I owe a quilt using my Me and My Sister "Dilly Dally" or "Twirl".

    I also have the same fabrics you've used so that would be very tempting as well. I love your quilt.

    Thanks for the chance to win. I bought a deep red jelly roll to make another pattern using a layer cake. Well, the layer cake didn't end up being as pretty as I'd liked so I cut up the layer cake and sewed it back together without using the jelly roll. So I think I'd figure out how to use the jelly rolls with maybe a print of some sort? Your top is great.

    That could be a good way to stop the kids stealing another quilt - it has my letter all over it! Such lovely 2.5" strips, I can see a number of new jelly rolls purchased just to decide which one wins. I love the idea of using graduations of grey instead of plain white too.

    As soon and I saw the splashed colors I thought of Ticklish by Moda! Beautiful fabric patterns in turquoise, bright pink, orange, lavendar and yellow would be
    ideal to make this beautiful pattern Pop!
