Aurifil Thread Giveaway {Quilting Gallery Blog Hop Party}

I am totally thrilled to have a give away sponsored by Aurifil - I have a stack of Aurifil Thread to give away to TEN lucky people!

My regular readers will probably have noticed I love Aurifil thread - and I use it for pretty much all my quilting and piecing - so I'm extremely excited to be able to share the love today. Aurifil Cotton Mako is long-staple Egyptian cotton - strong but fine and I find it leaves virtually no lint in my machine. It comes in a number of thread weights so it's ideal for a huge range of projects.

Although I've not used it, Aurifil also produce Lana Wool thread, a 12wt thread ideal for cross stitch and embroidery, hand and machine applique, even in quilting.

Full disclosure - Aurifil sent me this thread to give away on my blog, but the words and thoughts on Aurifil are completely my own. I have been using this thread for the last 12 months or so and I haven't looked back.

I apologise, but due to the massive number of comments I'm not able to respond to each one. I'm enjoying reading them all though!

  2. I currently have white Aurifil on the machine but also use white or off-white Coats as it is readily available at the craft store 2 miles down the road and when you run out you gotta get what you can where you can!!!

  4. I'm very new to quilting so I use whatever I have (mainly Gutermann), but I read a lot about Aurifil and would love to try it (unfortunately it's difficult to get hold of it where I live).

  5. I am a sorry, horrible quilter and usually buy what's cheapest! I have transitioned to understanding fabric differences but it's hard for me to pay so much for thread! I really need to try some so I can see the difference!

  14. I haven't gotten to try Aurifil yet, I think tomorrow when I take my machine in to be serviced I will go to the one place where they have it and buy a couple of spools. Right now I mostly use Gutermann. I love verigated thread and Gutermann has quite a good selection of them. :D

  15. I`m a huge aurifil fan, too. I haven`t used it much for quilting since I have a longarm but I`m hoping to order one of the mega cones and try it out.

  16. I am not married to any one thread, but I do use Aurifil 50wt for all piecing as much as I can. It's a thinner thread and seems to "sink down" better and thus help make the seams less bulky. I'd love to try some of Aurifil's other threads though! Thanks for the chance :)

  34. I am still trying many threads. I like Superior Threads King Tut, I like Aurafil 50, 40 and 12 wt but mostly 40 wt for quilting, I like Valdani 50 wt, and Sulky all for quilting. I did not realize I would end up with a thread stash but I seem to have a full drawer and a lot of colours. This is a lovely giveaway, I would love to win, thank you for the chance.

  44. For years I'd been using Coats & Clark (on a crappy machine)... I started buying better fabric, bought a better machine, and realized I needed better fabric! I've gone through two of the big spools of Aurifil so far and I love it! I'm going to experiment with a few more too though!

  54. Once I tried Aurifill there was no return... It's a bit hard to get here though as I have to order it from UK and selecting colors online can be tough. Luckily I have world-class Cindy (from fluffysheepquilting) who is always kind to match the thread to fabrics with her color chart.

  78. A friend gave me her machine and it had the most beautiful thread left in the bobbin. I am so new to quilting and live in a very rural area. I did not know there were such beautiful threads! She told me she only uses Aurifil as she does so much embroidery with her machine. I hope to get some after Christmas when I have time and money to shop.

  96. I love quilting with Aufifil, the colors are perfect! I can always find the color that best suits my project! My machine loves the no lint thread...the Egyptian cotton runs as smooth as glass through it and makes beautiful clean stitches. Thanks for the giveaway. My "stash" is small but I am working on expanding...no other will do!!

  108. I started out using mettler, because that's what my quilt shop offered; since then I have used aurifil. It is a fantastic thread with little or no lint left behind. I tend to use a lot of gray or tan. It is a wonderful addition to my otherwise wonky piecing.

I've never used Aurifil but I'd love to try it after reading so much good about them from so many quiltbloggers. I order everything else I need for quilting online, why not thread too? ^^

  119. I too love Aurafil, I had one large spool of grey that rolled on the floor when I took my machine to the shop. Apparently my puppy likes it to because he chewed it up. I am still so sad. It was rendered useless.

  161. I've only used Aurifil once and it kept breaking on me. I'd love to try it again and see if it was just the thread/quilt combo or the machine. (And if it is the machine, I'll use it to piece! I've never tried that, but have heard great things about it.)

  169. i have a very small stash of aurifil ... my lqs only carries mettler, so i use that with my machine and my aurifil with my hand sering. love the aurifil! thanx for the chance to win some.

  175. I started using Aurifil when I got my Bernina before I thought thread was thread but not now. I just started using #2370 which blends with everything. My son sewed his quilt with it.

  180. I use the variegated Aurifl and like it a lot. I use a wide variety of the threads such as Maderia, Gutterman , Superior threads, Isocord, King Tut and Coates and Clark. Aurifil is definitely in the toprunning for favorite threads. Thanks for the opportunity to win such a wonderful gift.
