I started quilting my Emerald Challenge quilt last night. I'm in desperate need of a good name for this one - I have no ideas whatsoever!! Suggestions happily accepted ;o)
I'm using Aurifil 50wt for all the quilting (2021 in the neutral areas, and 2865 on the greens). The green thread is the same one I used on Groove - I like that it blends really well on some of the greens, but stands out more on the darker and lighter greens.
The piecing on this was far less than perfect, so I'm hoping the quilting helps disguise the dodgy bits. It kind of is so far - or at least making them less blindingly obvious :o) I want to keep the quilting fairly sparse on the Oakshotts, but quilt the greys really densely so they sit flat.
I'm using two layers of my usual bamboo batting, and it's added a bit more loft to the quilting, without being too puffy. It's a fair bit heavier to move through though my machine when I'm FMQing, so I definitely won't be doing it on anything bigger. My arms were pretty sore after doing this (it took about an hour I think?)
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
xx Jess

I love the puffiness of the green parts. It's going to be so gorgeous when it's finished!
It is looking wonderful! No new name is jumping out at me- but I'll keep thinking!

Really like the colours you have used. The green really stands out. Can't think of a good name, sorry. Hugs.......
Liking the quilting contrast, but alas, no names springing to mind at the moment other than 'It's not easy being green'
wow Jess, it's fabulous, I love the effect the quilting is having. And I love the architextures print in with the greens.
Emerald Challenge ... makes me think of the Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz. How about "We're Not in Kansas Anymore, Toto" ... ;-)
I don't usually like this shade of green but this quilt is just gorgeous !
And the quilting ? Perfect and amazing !
No name idea. I've never named any of my quilt actually so I can't really help !
This is looking really great. I'm excited to see your progress!
Can't wait to see this finished....looking wonderful
This is looking so good! The contrast in the quilting is great and those greens are just gorgeous. I wish I could help with a name, but I am terrible at it. :D
How about "Facets"?
I sure like the look that double batting gives! I haven't ever tried it.
I'd call it Kermit. Its sooo gorgeous, and that quilting is going to be so cool.
Beautiful quilting, Jess!
As always, your quilting blows me away. As for names, "Who needs a diamond?!" comes to mind...but I may be projecting because my engagement ring is an amethyst and I love it so much more. I'd bet I'd think the same of an emerald. Other than that, maybe "Tesseract".
Beauteous :) Ah, coming up with a name is so difficult. I'll let you know if I think of anything (I like "Tesseract" from above, though)
This quilt is gorgeous and I love the way you're quilting it :)
Elizabeth Taylor was famous for her emerald necklaces - you could play off her name somehow. Or there is a famous Emerald necklace called the "MacKay".
Gorgeous quilt!
It's looking great Jess. I don't name my quilts generally so I'm no help there!
As a side note, I've been wondering about trying bamboo batting. How does it compare to cotton batting?
It looks great Jess. The quilting is what I want to do with Space dust, so I will be after you for tips ;-)
I see your emerald challenge quilt has attracted a lot of lovely comments. The comment 'facets' was something I thought of....like the facets of an emerald. However since I live in a place known as the emerald isle, what about '40 shades'.....just a thought. It is looking lovely whatever you call it.
Love the effect of the quilting on the double batting - I have used bamboo batting before and it is beautifully soft! Sorry - a bit hopeless with name ideas.
This is looking great! I'll have to remember the double layer of bamboo batting in the future. It's nice to have the extra emphasis on the stitching but not the "poof" of really think (think polyester) batting. I have no good ideas for a name, but I think you'll find one. :)
I am just loving your quilt, and the quilting is just making it more excellent. I went to wikipedia because your quilt reminds me of emeralds as a gemstone. Maybe a name might be clarity or crystal?
Wow, look at the comments! I don't really have anything new to add LOL looks great though!
I love the colour! No name but will have a think!
Emerald Bursts!
So pretty! Emerald Cityscape came to mind, with the Oz-like greens and the Architextures background.
